IB in the cinema for “Vlny”

  Last Thursday 3rd of October 2024 the IB students along with the rest of the school went to see an Oscar nominated movie “Vlny”. You might wonder why did the IB get 4 hours off of school?!? It was due to the fact that this movie has a majorly important topic in it that even the IB students should sacrifice a few lessons to see. And it was really worth it, as the students were not only amazed by the cinematography but also had to put their thinking caps on to actually think about the deep meaning. A few students even got touched to the point they started shedding tears.

 In the beginning we heard a speech by Mr. Professor Chadima explaining the context and some more facts to put the students in the picture, so they were not lost in the movie. “Vlny” made them remember the atrocities the past regime has committed and we believe that it has made them more aware of the danger of today's politics. But all was not this dark, as there definitely were a lot of scenes that put a big smile on the students faces as it was deeply humorous.

 After leaving the cinema, there were passionate discussions heard all across Smíchov due to the students' newfound interest in this topic after seeing the movie. With all these positive reactions from the students, we are sure going to see another movie sometime in the future.
